Church of Our Lady of the Assumption

Located in the Plaza de la Constitución, next to the Town Hall and very close to the Castle, this church is the main parish temple of Dénia.

History and architecture

Built in the second third of the 18th century over a previous hermitage dedicated to Sant Roc, with a neoclassical façade and atraditional dome of blue glazed tiles. Its Latin cross plan has a nave of four sections with a barrel vault and lunettes, side chapels connected by wide aisles, and a transept topped by an octagonal dome on a drum.

It also highlights a Renaissance niche from the sixteenth century, located above the entrance to the Chapel of Roser or Sant Roc, with pediment, frieze of triglyphs and metopes.
