This itinerary invites you to begin a fascinating journey through the historical roots of the city, discovering the traces of the old suburb and the Fortí de Daniya, the wall that in Muslim times protected the suburb and its port. From there, the route makes its way south towards the coastline of the Les Rotes area, where you will visit the first beach, Marineta Cassiana. Along the way, you will be amazed by the views of two modern marinas, the Mediterranean atmosphere of the promenade and the serene beauty of the beach, whose waters are part of a Marine Nature Reserve. Sea breeze, biodiversity of the coastline and perfect spots for swimming, resting or photography through an experience where the sea, nature and tranquility merge in perfect harmony, to discover Dénia at a different pace, between history and landscape.

What to see in the itinerary

Islamic period wall
- The site of the Muralla del Fortí is located in a square with access from Castell d’Olimbroi street, in front of the National Police Station. It shows part of the Northeast Wall of the Fortí, the latter was part of the suburb of the Islamic Medina of Daniya. Its construction could be dated around the eleventh century, documenting in this place the existence of the tower (rectangular) of the northeast corner of the enclosure. The suburb, closed with the solid wall, occupied a space of 12 hectares to the southeast of the Medina with which it was connected through a bridge.
Picturesque streets and squares of seafaring origin
- In Castell d’Olimbroi Street, there are several groups of houses built in the middle of the last century to house families of fishermen of the city, known as 1º Grup Mariner and 2º Grup Mariner. These houses have curious facades with arched doorways and windows and display painted tiles that refer to the maritime and fishing activity. From the street you can access the picturesque Marina Alta square, around which one of the groups of houses is located.
Port area and nautical facilities with panoramic views
- The Real Club Náutico de Dénia, inaugurated in 1968, is a must for sailors and water sports enthusiasts. It is located at the end of Castell d’Olimbroi street next to a large traffic circle in front of Joan Fuster avenue.
- La Marina de Dénia, a marina, tourist and leisure port of reference. Located on the southern breakwater of the port, it is crossed by a charming promenade that invites you to enjoy exceptional panoramic views, ideal for taking pictures and connecting with the tranquility of the coastal landscape.

Marineta Cassiana Beach Promenade
- It is a pleasant pedestrian promenade located parallel to the Marineta Cassiana beach, the only sandy beach in the Les Rotes area. It is followed by rocky coves. Its waters and seabed are protected and declared a Natural Reserve of the Cabo de San Antonio Seabed, thanks to its rich environmental biodiversity. The oceanic posidonia fills its waters with oxygen and life and protects the coast from erosion.
- This beach owes its name to the owner of the first large estate next to the sea, Casiana Pamir. In the 19th century it functioned as a secondary port of the city due to its shallow draft. The steamers and sailing ships anchored offshore. The raisin cargo was carried to the ships in llaüts.
- Along the promenade you can see two buildings that are striking for their clear Victorian influence, whose origin dates back to the nineteenth century. They were built by the Dénia bourgeoisie of the time, linked to the raisin trade between Dénia and the United Kingdom. In the first section is the Torreta de los Suárez-Riera, a medieval tower house, and in the second section, the Rota del Zarzo, a mansion located next to the wall. Both are privately owned and not open to visitors, but are surprising for their architecture.
- From this walk there is the option of continuing along the rocky coast of Les Rotes to the south, alternating paved stretches with dirt roads and cobblestone paths.

Tips for the visit

Wear comfortable shoes and, if desired, bring swimwear and a towel to finish with a swim at Marineta Cassiana beach.
Make a stop by the sea for a snack or a meal, since Marina de Dénia and the Real Club Náutico have restaurants where you can delight your palate and your eyes.
Complement this itinerary with the route Paseo de Les Rotes-Torre del Gerro if you wish to continue discovering the coast of Dianes.
