Rules and Uses of Marine Reserves

Marine reserve regulations

In the Marine Nature Reserve it is prohibited:

  • Anchoring of boats. Note: Anchoring with anchor is prohibited, only mooring at authorized buoys is allowed.
  • Sailing at more than 6 knots.
  • Dumping of waste at sea.
  • Collection of marine organisms, inert elements and archaeological remains.

In the Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest:

The same regulations apply as in the Seabed Nature Reserve since it is part of the same, but this area has greater protection, so that, in addition to the prohibitions indicated above, it is also prohibited:

  • Navigation with a jet ski.
  • Recreational sea fishing in all its modalities: from land, from boat and underwater.
  • Recreational and professional diving without the corresponding authorization. Note: The previous authorization required for scuba diving (with bottle) is processed in the Territorial Direction of Alicante of Maritime Fisheries, whose e-mail contact is buceoreservamarina_alicante@gva.es.
  • Nautical sports involving the use of motor boats, nautical motorcycles and any type of self-propelled nautical device.

Non-compliance will be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of the laws and decrees in force.

Uses of the marine reserve

The Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserves are areas of great ecological and scenic value. They are protected to guarantee the conservation of marine biodiversity and to ensure that future generations can also enjoy them. If you visit these areas, it is important that you take into account the rules, uses and good practices (See marine reserve rules).

Respect for biodiversity

  • It is not allowed to extract fauna, flora, stones, shells or any other natural element.
  • It is forbidden to feed the fish or disturb the marine species and birds that inhabit the area.

2. Nautical and sporting activities

  • Navigation is only allowed in the areas and under the conditions established by the regulations. Always consult the nautical charts before setting out.
  • Anchoring of boats is prohibited. There are ecological mooring buoys for authorized boats.
  • Recreational diving is regulated and requires prior authorization. Request authorization or contact local dive centers to perform the activity within the legality.

Waste and contamination

  • Do not throw any type of waste into the sea: plastics, fishing lines, cigarette butts, oils or polluting liquids.
  • Onboard cleaning products must always be biodegradable and respectful of the marine environment.
  • Keep engines overhauled to reduce emissions and spills

Bathing areas and safety

  • Always respect the areas designated for bathing and keep the minimum distance to the coast when sailing.
  • Use low environmental impact sunscreens to protect your skin without harming the ecosystem.
  • From boat: Keep active listening on VHF channel 16 to receive emergency and maritime safety information.

5. Wildlife sighting

  • The coast of Denia is a privileged spot to observe dolphins, turtles and other marine species. Always do it at a safe distance and without interfering with their natural behavior.
  • If you see a marine animal, you can report it to viuiconviu@ayto-denia.es. In case of injured or distressed specimens, call 112 to activate the rescue protocol.
