Les Drassanes is an architectural testimony of the old shipyards of Dénia, with documented origins from the thirteenth century when James I gave the land to the Templar William of Cardona for port uses. The building that is preserved today dates from the 16th century, with reforms in the 18th century, and was used as a port warehouse and workshop for the construction and repair of boats.
The original building was an elongated one-story structure with an Arabic tile roof, designed to house boats. Part of the second floor is preserved with five stone bell-shaped arches. The current upper floors and attic correspond to later remodeling without original elements of the medieval shipyards.
It is located in front of the port of Dénia, in the Plaça de les Drassanes, 1-2, next to the emblematic monument “Bous a la mar”. It currently operates as a building for private use, including a hotel.
