Almond

The almond is one of the most representative fruits of traditional agriculture in Dénia and the Marina Alta region. Grown in the sunny fields surrounding the city, this nut has been part of the Mediterranean diet and the agricultural landscape for centuries, especially in spring, when the almond trees in bloom tinge the terraces of the area with white and pink.

There are three varieties found in the Marina Alta: La Marcona, La Cabeza and La Rumbeta, the latter originating in Alcalalí.

In gastronomy, almonds play a leading role both in traditional pastries -such as nougat, pastissets or coques- and in savory dishes that take advantage of their delicate flavor and crunchy texture. Its versatility makes it an essential ingredient that adds character to local recipes, while at the same time it is a symbol of the union between the land, tradition and cuisine.

Almonds have a high energy value. It is rich in protein and calcium, a powerful antioxidant and is very low in gluten.

Beyond its culinary value, the almond is a reflection of the character of Dénia: a product that unites tradition, nature and sustainability. In every bite you can appreciate the richness of the Mediterranean land and the legacy of generations who have managed to keep alive one of the most beloved agricultural jewels of the region.
