Information about
The Dénia red shrimp is much more than a gastronomic product: it is identity, culture and tradition. To pay tribute to it, the Dénia composer Javier Pinto, together with Josep Pastor, president of the Dénia Music Band, created a musical work in three movements that follow the path of the shrimp from the sea to the table, combining fishing, cooking and taste in a unique artistic experience.
The story begins at sea, with the fishermen who set out every night in Mauri’s boat Mediterranium, accompanied by Esteban, José Vicente and Abdul, in search of the prized red shrimp. This first movement is dedicated to them and to all the people who dedicate their lives to the sea, where the music transmits the effort, the uncertainty and the greatness of the fishing task.
The second movement was led by chef Quique Dacosta, international ambassador of the Dénia red shrimp and a reference with three Michelin stars. Together with him, Javier Pinto discovered how to transform the product into a work for the senses. In this journey also participates the food critic Jesús Terrés, who brings the emotion of narrating in words the pleasure of tasting a prawn, thus uniting music, cuisine and literature.
The final touch is provided by the Dénia Music Band, with a century of history and 90 musicians performing this work born to move. After weeks of rehearsals, the band managed to transmit with musical notes that which transcends the palate: the culture, memory and passion of a people.
In December 2015, UNESCO recognized Dénia as a Creative City of Gastronomy, a distinction that endorses this type of project where fishing, cuisine and music come together in the same story. The Red Prawn Soundtrack is, in short, an artistic statement of the spirit of Dénia and its most emblematic product.
