The festival, explains its director Óscar Jareño, was named Al Dani in homage to Abu Salt, “the one from Dénia”, the great scholar born in Daniya in the 11th century. The objective of the contest, explains Jareño, “is to create a place where to give light to the traditional Mediterranean music of contemporary character”. National and international artists are invited, who in addition to their performances, give workshops to the public, creating a bond of knowledge and coexistence with the participants. Dénia will be attended by Mara Aranda (voice), Fernando di Piaggi (flutist, percussionist) and Jota Martínez (string musician), who will give a percussion and voice workshop (accessible to the general public) and a plucked string workshop (more focused on musicians) at the Social Center, from 10 am to 1.30 pm. In the afternoon, from 3.30 to 5 p.m., the director of the festival, Óscar Jareño, will offer another workshop, voice and body percussion, outdoors, in the Plaza María Hervás. The morning workshops have a registration fee of 15 euros and the afternoon one of 5 euros. Prior registration is required by calling 605 82 67 48. The program will close with the concert “Geographies of the Diaspora” by Mara Aranda, in the auditorium of the Social Center, at 7 pm. Admission is free until seating capacity is reached.
