As cities grow denser, they leave behind barren landscapes where the colour of construction bricks dominates. Environmental rehabilitation of urban areas is essential to restore the nature-city balance and recover lost ecosystem services. This concept will be applied to the coastal municipality of Dénia, where three study zones have been selected: the town centre, two strips of the current urban expansion area — the first located in Calle Amaltea and the second in Camí dels Lladres — and finally the Castle.
First, a study of the vegetation in these zones will be conducted, followed by the development of a renaturalisation proposal. This proposal focuses on maintaining or reintroducing native, viable vegetation and presenting alternatives to re-green the most affected areas. It will also include a public awareness campaign to gain support from local residents.
The conference will conclude with a SWOT (DAFO) analysis to assess the viability of the proposals. All of this is aimed at creating an ecological and resilient urban environment capable of facing climate challenges.
