DÉNIA, 10 YEARS AFTER BEING NAMED CREATIVE CITY OF GASTRONOMY BY UNESCO

This September kicks off with a commemoration that will last until well into 2026 to celebrate ten years since UNESCO recognized Dénia as a Creative City of Gastronomy on December 11, 2015 . This is a recognition of the culinary and agri-food heritage of Dénia and the Marina Alta, and the cultural power of a gastronomy that speaks of identity, landscape and community.

The initiative will be a participatory program that invites the entire city and the territory to be part of the tribute. Although the main event will take place in December, numerous activities of a diverse nature will be held starting this month, designed to involve residents and visitors.

D*na Gastronomic Festival Dénia

A central pillar of this celebration will be the edition of the D*na Festival Gastronòmic, which will take place on September 27 and 28 at the Marineta Cassiana promenade. As part of the festival, five Creative Cities of Gastronomy – Parma (Italy), Tsuruoka (Japan), Zahlé (Lebanon), Nkongsamba (Cameroon) and Mérida (Mexico) – will join as special guests. Their chefs will share emblematic dishes, give workshops and bring their agri-food cultures to the public, generating a dialogue of flavors and traditions between territories.

Art, music and gastronomic memory

The Santa Cecilia Concert will be one of the most emotional moments: on November 30, the Agrupación Artística Musical de Dénia will perform the B.S.O. “Gamba Roja de Dénia”, premiered in 2017. It is a symphonic poem in three movements (Fishing, Cooking and Tasting) composed by Javier Pinto and Josep Pastor.

In addition, between 2025 and 2026, other cultural, social and informative initiatives (exhibitions, meetings, lectures) will be deployed.
