The Site of Community Interest of L’Almadrava is a large Posidonia barrier reef of exceptional interest. Also declared SPA(Special Protection Area for Birds) and SAC(Special Area of Conservation), it regularly hosts migratory and wintering populations of six species of birds. The area is used as a feeding ground by Audouin’s Gull, Shag, Mediterranean Shearwater, Balearic Shearwater, European Storm Petrel and Black-footed Tern.
It is one of the most sensitive marine enclaves of the Valencian coast due to the presence of posidonia meadows and marine species of high ecological value.
It is located in the northern part of the port of Dénia, occupying more than 4,600 hectares that extend in the seabed away from the coast. It is of interest for professional diving and bird watching. Its access is only by boat. Anchoring is not allowed in order to preserve the underwater meadows.
