Flora Microreserves

Information about

Flora Microreserves

In the heart of the Montgó Natural Park there are two Flora Microreserves and in the Rotes area we find three more Microreserves. They are protected natural spaces that preserve plant species of high ecological value, some of them endemic or in danger of extinction. This figure of protection, promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana, seeks to preserve specific enclaves especially rich in botanical biodiversity. In the Montgó they are located, one of them in the vicinity of the Cova de l’Aigua and the other in the area of the “Barranc de L’Emboixar”.

In the area of Les Rotes there are three more micro-reserves of flora.

The micro-reserves of Dénia are located in an area of great interest due to its geological characteristics, altitude and orientation, which allow the presence of highly specialized plants, many of them adapted to grow in limestone. Among the most outstanding species are wild orchids, rock plants and Mediterranean scrub, which also serve as a refuge for insects, birds and small reptiles.

Although they are small spaces, they play a key role as a natural observatory and genetic reserve, as they are home to unique life forms that are sensitive to environmental changes. The micro-reserves are marked and delimited to favor their knowledge and protection, and no activity that may alter their equilibrium is allowed. Therefore, it is essential to respect the marked trails, not to pick up plants or stones, and to avoid noise or disturbance to the fauna.

The Flora Microreserves remind us that nature also expresses itself in the small, and that protecting these discrete corners is essential to preserve the ecosystem as a whole.
