Ermita de San Juan

INFORMATION OF INTEREST

The Ermita de Sant Joan is the most famous of the “Ermitas de la Conquista” of the 15th century. It is a sample of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. Its central body is of Gothic style. It has a single rectangular nave, with a gabled roof supported by two Gothic pointed arches.

The access portal is formed by a semicircular arch and the main façade is crowned by a belfry, and the hermit’s house is currently used as a sacristy. It is attached to the original building and is the result of a reform of the original hermitage. It is noteworthy that it served as a refuge, in the seventeenth century, to the Brotherhood of “Negres”: Christianized African slaves.

Father Pare Pere, in honor of whom there is another hermitage that bears his name, meditated in this place.
