Church of Our Lady of Loreto

Located in the historic center, on the corner of Loreto and San Narcís streets, the church is part of the former Convent of the Discalced Augustinian Nuns, founded in 1604 by the Duke of Lerma under the patronage of Philip III. The present church was inaugurated in 1684 and consecrated in 1691, and is notable for its Latin cross plan, with a central nave and independent side chapels, and a large transept topped by a dome on pendentives.

The exterior, austere and elegant, has two semicircular portals flanked by Doric pilasters: the main one on San Narcís street and the side one on Loreto street, built with marés stone ashlars. Inside, the main altarpiece dedicated to the Holy Blood of the Lord and a modern carving of the Virgin of Loreto, made of melis wood in 1941, stand out.
