Les Roques is located at the foot of Dénia Castle and is the oldest historical center of the city. Originally from the Islamic medina, it was part of the defensive raval (Raval) before the Christian conquest in the thirteenth century, and still retains sections of the Arab wall that delimited the original enclosure.
Characteristics and environment
- Narrow, steep streets, laid out in the form of a labyrinth, were developed around 1890 in response to urban growth, although they maintain the medieval and traditional essence of the neighborhood.
- Low houses with Mediterranean colors, balconies with flowers and small gardens, all in a quiet environment inhabited by a close-knit community that still lives together in the public space.
