Both are located in the building of the old train station of the Dénia-Carcaixent line (main door accessible by a ramp at the front door).
On the first floor is the L’Estació Art Center with temporary exhibitions.
On the second floor, through a staircase, we access the toy museum, also accessible by elevator. It exhibits a wide and interesting sample of the toy production in Dénia, from its beginnings (1904), until the decade of the 60s.
Toys made of metal and, above all, wood characterize the toy production of the time, creating from fleets of pedal cars and airplanes and other wheeled devices, to sailing ships, wagons, trucks, trains, reproducing the greats of land transportation, to wooden kitchens, bowling or ring games, etc.
The first toy industry in Dénia, manufactured exclusively lithographed tinplate toys with machinery and models imported from Germany. Ten years later, a wooden toy factory was created, lathed and varnished and with exquisite finishes, decorated with metallic appliqués.
In the twenties, in the face of the development of the metal toy, a production of wooden toys took shape, which in time characterized the Dénia toy and delighted the children of the time, reaching a total of more than 40 factories.
The toy of the 50s and 60s was, par excellence, the wooden toy. Despite the still healthy production of tricycles, bicycles, pedal cars or scooters, with roots in the first decades of the century and despite the luxurious production of pedal cars, airplanes and metal tartans, it was wood and the colors that go with it the most emblematic print that during these years reached memorable heights of popularity.
Among the motifs of the toys are sailing ships, carts pulled by horses or donkeys, trucks, etc. The wooden kitchens, the game of birles, the game of rings, or the forts with cowboys and Indians, show the richness and diversity of the wooden toys of Dénia.
Located in the historic building of the old Dénia-Carcaixent train station (Calderón 2 street), this space offers a dual cultural experience: on the first floor, the L’Estació Art Center hosts temporary exhibitions; on the second floor, the Dénia Toy Museum celebrates the old local toy industry (1904-1960) through a permanent exhibition of wooden and metal toys, many manufactured in the city itself.
