The Fortí Wall was part of the ancient defensive system of Islamic Dénia and is one of the most outstanding vestiges of the city’s Muslim past. Built around the 11th century, it protected the suburb of the medina, a neighborhood outside the walls that extended southeast of the castle and was connected to it by a bridge.
This walled enclosure, which occupied about 12 hectares, fulfilled a strategic function of both defense and control of urban growth. Today, the remains preserved next to the C/Castell d’Olimbroi correspond to the northeast wall of the Fortí, documenting in this place the existence of the tower (rectangular plant) of the northeast corner of the enclosure. Its visit allows us to imagine the magnitude and solidity of those walls that marked the history of Dénia.
