A road trip from Dénia to explore part of the region’s inland areas, visiting Orba and the villages of “La Vall de Laguar”: Campell, Fleix and Benimaurell.
On the way to Orba: Leaving Dénia, we’ll pass through Ondara and take the turn-off to Benidoleig, near which lie the Cuevas de las Calaveras caves, featuring stalactites and stalagmites. It’s a 900-metre-long cave open to visitors, with entry via a ticket.
On the Benidoleig-Orba road, you can visit the Moorish pottery kilns.
ORBA
In the heart of the Marina Alta, Orba boasts two charming historic centres —Orba and Orbeta— where its Arab roots still thrive alongside the Font de Dalt and the Font de Baix.
Famous for its pottery and ceramics, the town is home to the Museu del Fang, which offers guided tours and creative workshops.
Orba offers scenic routes for walkers and cyclists, such as those leading to the Castellet (13th century) or the Fuente Centella.
CAMPELL
At the entrance to the village, the Church of Santa Ana (18th century) presides over its welcoming square, inviting visitors to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Campell. Nearby, a signposted trail leads to the Font de Campell, the Hermitage of San José (18th century) and the Font de Gel, a pleasant route through nature, history and tradition.
FLEIX
The churches of Santa Teresa and San Pascual (18th century) are located on Carrer San Pascual.
HIKING IN THE BARRANC DE L’INFERN
Known as the “Cathedral of Hiking”, this demanding circular route starts at the school in Fleix and winds through the impressive Barranc de l’Infern, between the areas of Les Juvees Altes and Mitges.
The route, which is highly challenging, follows an old cobbled path with 6,873 steps, washing places and springs such as the Font Grossa, the Font del Reinós and the Font dels Olbis, surrounded by farm buildings and landscapes of great beauty.
Recommended only for experienced hikers and not suitable on rainy days.
BENIMAURELL
From Fleix, we head towards Benimaurell. Discover the churches of Saints Cosmas and Damian (18th century) in Plaça Sacramento, its picturesque narrow streets, the traditional wash house at Font de Benimaurell and the Font dels Oblis.
For hiking enthusiasts, the Cavall Verd and Collao mountain ranges offer trails with spectacular views.
