Train platform of La Xara – L´Albarda Garden

Starting from the train stop (FGV) we begin a pleasant walk through orange groves and the “Pinaret de La Xara”, until we find the monumental carob tree. We continue through the J. B. Basset park, an example of native gardening, and arrive at the old public washing place integrated between houses of rustic appearance, without cars on the streets. The route runs along a dirt road, path, and gravel in the park.

Suggestion

If we go by bicycle there is the option of using the train or leaving Dénia by the itinerary of the Volta al Montgó (Route 8), make the journey to the house of La Mistelera de La Xara and return to Dénia by the bike path parallel to the entrance road. It should be noted that this bike path has numerous intersections along its route.
Garrofer (Algarrobo) of the square

This large tree(Ceratonia siliqua) greets our arrival at La Xara, giving us abundant shade. It has a short trunk, split down the center, divided into two main branches, with an almost horizontal growth. Its height is 8.5 m, and has an estimated age between 300 and 400 years. It grew among rain-fed crops near the town. With the expansion of the urban center is the central protagonist of a square that bears his name. Some benches under its shade invite to rest.
La Mistelera de la Xara

At 300 m from the park, crossing the road towards the Hospital of Dénia, is the old Mistelera de la Xara, a cultural space that has an interesting garden area. Among its trees stands out a false pepper tree(Shinus molle), the largest one catalogued in the municipality of Dénia, with an estimated age of 100 years. The perimeter of its trunk is 4.0 6m. The grove is completed with imposing melias(melia axederach), arbutus (Arbutus unedo) or fire tree (Grevillea robusta) among others.
